The XM-18 3.5" is known the world over as one of the toughest tactical folders and has been our flagship model since its creation. Rick’s focus when designing the XM-18 was a tool ready for not only the simplest cutting tasks, but also hard use situations that require a durable and reliable folding knife. The blade locks up on a solid ¼ inch diameter Thumb stud which is press fit into the blade. Because the thumb stud locks up against the frame it adds an incredible amount of strength to the sideways torque of the blade as the sideways stresses are being stopped by the whole handle side, thus relieving the stress that would normally be put on the pivot.
The XM18 features a 3.5" blade and a 4.75" handle to bring the knife's overall length to 8.25", and this size is what many of our customers have come to prefer for maximum versatility in their everyday carry. The 3.5" blade length is our most popular, as it maintains compactness and convenience of carry, while still being a hard use folder, a Rick Hinderer Knives staple. The locksides are machined from USA made titanium, and our current stainless-steel offerings are made by Crucible Powdered Metals, an iconic American steel producer. Rick is always selecting premium steels, with the goal of achieving the best combination of edge retention and corrosion resistance.
As with all of Rick Hinderer Knives' folders, the XM-18 3.5 is made in the USA at our facility in Shreve, Ohio. We precision CNC machine the handles, blades, hardware, and accessories. Because so much of the production is done in house, we are able to achieve some of the highest quality levels within the industry. Tight tolerances and years of refinement have led to unparalleled finishing and usability in our knives.
